The Anacortes Fire Department held a graduation ceremony for the recruits that attended the department's first ever recruit training academy, as well as the first Firefighter Awards ceremony in 25 years, on April 12.

Over a period of 15 weeks of "grueling" training, including general firemanship, search and rescue and daily physical training, seven recruits became the next batch of dedicated civil servants in Skagit County. During the April 12 ceremony, the new graduates received their certifications and had their new badges pinned.
