A remembrance ceremony for Nancy Werner Mathews of Anacortes will be at the Werner cabin at West Beach on Guemes Island 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 13.
Irma M. Willoughby, 96, of Anacortes passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at San Juan Care Center.
She was born on June 12, 1917 in Cambria, Minnesota, the daughter of Arthur and Ellen (Davis) Jones. Irma was born into a large family of six other siblings, Mazel, Myron, Donald, Dorothy, Mildred and Cecil. When Irma was very young, her family relocated to San Diego, CA where she graduated from Sweet Water High School in 1935.
Irma met and fell in love with a charming young sailor in San Diego and on June 8, 1941 in Yuma, AZ she married Alton O. Willoughby Jr. She enjoyed being a military wife and looked forward to the next adventure! When Alton was on deployment, Irma was the pillar of the family instilling good values in her children and as any good mother would do, she always put her children first.
DeWayne “Bud” Whitney Jr., 72 of Burlington, Washington passed away Thursday July 4, 2013.
He was born on October 20, 1940 in Rice Lake, Wisconsin to DeWayne and Dora Whitney. He graduated from Anacortes High School in 1959 and married his high school sweetheart , Julie Ferguson, in 1960.
After he finished high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force and served for four years. He held numerous jobs but his favorite was working at the Mount Vernon Chamber of Commerce from 2006 until his death.
Duane Lyman Berentson died peacefully in his sleep on July 5, 2013 in Mount Vernon, Washington. A Skagit County native, he was born on November 22, 1928 to Marion and Martha Berentson in Anacortes, Washington.
On June 27, 1949, he married Joanne Hawkings. They celebrated their 64th anniversary this year. Duane is survived by his wife Joanne, and their five children, Kristi (Jack) Burns of Spokane, Dan (Susan) Berentson of Burlington, David (Judy) Berentson of Burlington, Karen (Bill) Maston, Centennial, Colorado, Karol (Scott) Rarig, Seabeck, and 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Dorothy Jilg of Anacortes died June 30, 2013.
Dorothy was loved by all who knew her.
She is survived by husband, Jack, and children.
Rose J. Stauffer, 28, of Spokane, Washington, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2013.
Rose was born August 31, 1984 in Walla Walla, Washington. She later moved to Anacortes, Washington, and attended Mt. Erie Elementary, Anacortes Middle School, and Anacortes High School.
She raised service dogs through the local 4-H. Rose attended WSU in Pullman, Washington, graduated with a BA in Sociology. She worked as a housing manager with Sojourner’s Alliance in Moscow, Idaho.
