Refinery smoke from seal leak Posted by Joan Pringle in News Aug 25, 2010 | 1160 views

Two workers received first aid for burns after an incident at the Shell Puget Sound Refinery this morning.

“What it boils down to is there was a seal leak on a pump,” said public information officer Jody Barnett.

Smoke could be seen rising from the March Point facility at about 10 a.m. after the incident occurred.

The two employees were treated after getting slurry, a heavy oil almost like crude, on them, Barnett said.

During the incident, all non-essential personnel were evacuated from the affected unit and the on-site emergency response teams were activated as a precaution, Barnett said. All refinery personnel were accounted for and there was no impact to the surrounding community.
