Easement request dropped by owner

A public hearing and site visit on a Sunset Cove property owner’s request that the city relinquish a shoreline public access easement was canceled because the owner has withdrawn the request, said Ryan Larsen, the city’s planning, community and economic development director.

Owner Sam Chebier offered to build a section of 8-foot wide trail around his property — on land owned by the city — so that he can build retaining walls in the current easement on the hillside at 2404 Washington Court. The site is at the end of Puget Way, between Washington Park and Shannon Point Marine Center.

Hospital receives $25,000 cancer research grant

The Heath Foundation of Beaverton, Ore., has awarded $25,000 to Island Hospital to launch a cancer research program in conjunction with Swedish Hospital, Seattle, the Island Hospital Foundation announced in a press release July 11.
