Dogs will paddle at pool before six-week closure

Hospital receives $25,000 cancer research grant

AHS drama recognized for musical

For the first time, the Anacortes High School drama program was recognized by the 5th Avenue Awards, a program that honors excellence in high school musical theater productions. Competing against the Northwest’s biggest schools, Anacortes performers and technical crews received nominations or honorable mentions in six categories, all for their contributions to the spring musical “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.”

Arson suspected in portable toilet fire

Anacortes police are investigating a burned down portable toilet as arson.

Firefighters were called around 2:43 p.m. Tuesday to the 1400 block of 24th Street. Witnesses reported seeing a teenager holding a roman candle near the toilet, said Fire Chief Richard Curtis.
