The Washington Department of Ecology will test the ability of area oil companies to respond to oil spills during an exercise in Padilla Bay on Wednesday.
Shell Puget Sound Refinery is sponsoring this multi-party spill drill with its oil spill contractor Marine Spill Response Corp. MSRC will deploy response boats, oil barrier boom and other equipment in Padilla Bay as part of the practice.
By participating in the drill, MSRC’s customers will fulfill part of Washington’s oil-spill preparedness requirements.
Representatives from Ecology will observe and evaluate the drill. No oil will actually be placed in the water for the exercise.
Also participating in the drill are Tesoro, Trans Mountain Pipeline, Olympic Pipe Line Co., Alaska Tankers Co., BP Shipping, Harley Marine Services, Polar Tankers and SeaRiver Maritime.
