Port, ESD reach property-use agreement Posted by Joan Pringle | Jun 13, 2012 | 194 views

Small boat users seemed to breathe a sigh of relief last week after the Port of Anacortes commission approved an agreement hashed out between port Executive Director Bob Hyde and Northwest Educational Service District 189 Superintendent Gerald Jenkins in March.

The agreement settled a dispute between the two entities over the use of Seafarers’ Memorial Park, which is just north of the district’s property.

The argument centered around the easement given to the port by the district to provide an area for small boaters to set up. When the park building was replaced after a major environmental cleanup at the site, it was repositioned. The district argued the overhang of the building as well as a fenced storage area and sidewalk encroached on the easement and beyond into its property.
