Reporter Kimberly Jacobson had the opportunity to fly onto the USS Abraham Lincoln for an overnight stay in October as one of 13 Anacortes Chamber of Commerce members and business leaders who went on the tour. Others were Pam Allen, Walter Briggs, Mark Bunzel, Duane Clark, Joe Furin, Kristi Gabrielse, Brian Geer, Kathy Larson, Mark Lawrence, Mark Perkins, Robin Pestarino and Jaunty Rutter.
They were guests of the Navy but paid their own costs, including plane tickets to San Diego, Calif., and a per diem for meals on the carrier.
The group was invited by Anacortes resident Capt. Kevin Meenaghan, Carrier Strike Group 9 Chief of Staff.
Over the course of two days they watched both day and night “flight ops,” met members of the crew, toured the ship, dined with the admiral and stayed overnight in a stateroom.

The Celebration of Trees, “A Holly Jolly Christmas,” was celebrated at the Port of Anacortes Transit Shed Event Center Friday and Saturday.
The Christmas season got a festive start over the weekend with a multitude of events sure to bring out the holiday cheer.
