The Granite Falls High School Eco Team will be visiting the Shell Puget Sound Refinery Monday afternoon to meet with the leadership team and receive a check for $1,000 to help sponsor their participation in the Shell Eco Marathon Americas 2010 competition.
The school has a girls team, ShopGirls, and a boys team, UrbanAutos. The girls were the first all women’s team in the competition. They won first place in the prototype diesel category with their car, the Iron Maiden, performing at 470 miles per gallon.
The car will be on display at the refinery’s annex building during the visit.
The boys’ Urban Concept car, Philippe’s Bulldozer, was the only two-seater. They gave the CEO of Shell a ride around the track during the ceremonial opening lap.
